SERVICES
Everything We Offer at BSP
Physical Therapy Evaluation
1 Issue/injury: A full evaluation lasting 60 minutes (treatment included) for 1 area of the body as well as a tailored exercise program sent to you vial email.
2+ Issues/injuries: A full evaluation lasting 90 minutes (treatment included) for 2-3 areas of the body as well as a tailored exercise program sent to you via email.
Evaluations are required for ALL new patients.
Physical Therapy Follow Ups
1 Hour Follow Ups: great for multiple injuries or during the initial stages of injury rehabilitation.
30 minute Follow Ups: great for receiving just 1 service (i.e. dry needling, exercise, soft tissue work, etc).
Functional Dry Needling
Functional Dry Needling is a highly effective and safe technique focused on releasing myofascial trigger points within muscle tissue. By releasing these trigger points, you allow increased circulation of blood and oxygen while restoring muscle function and strength via e-stim therapy. Whether you are injured or looking to prevent injury - this is a great tool to keep you active and perform at your best.
ADVANCED TREATMENT
Focused Shockwave Therapy
Accelerate Recovery. Reduce Pain. Keep Moving.
Focused Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic energy to stimulate your body's natural healing response. It can help reduce pain, improve function, and promote tissue healing in chronic injuries that have not responded fully to rest, exercise, or other conservative treatments.
At Boulder Sports Physiotherapy, we use the Storz Medical Duolith®, the gold standard in focused shockwave technology used by leading sports medicine clinics worldwide.
What Conditions Can Shockwave Therapy Help Treat?
Not every injury is appropriate for shockwave therapy. A thorough evaluation is required to determine if it is the right treatment for you.
Shockwave therapy is beneficial for:
Achilles tendinopathy
Plantar fasciitis
Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee)
Hamstring tendinopathy
Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow
Rotator cuff tendinopathy
Calcific shoulder tendinopathy
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (hip bursitis/tendinopathy)
Shin splints and select bone stress injuries
Certain cases of chronic muscle and tendon pain
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
The goal is not simply symptom relief. Shockwave is designed to help address the underlying tissue dysfunction contributing to pain.
Focused shockwave delivers high-energy acoustic waves directly to injured tissue. Research finds these waves:
Stimulate blood vessel formation and circulation
Promote tissue regeneration and healing
Reduce pain sensitivity
Break down calcific deposits in tendons
Improve tendon and soft tissue remodeling
What Does Treatment Feel Like?
Most patients describe shockwave therapy as a series of rapid pulses delivered to the injured area. Some mild to moderate discomfort during treatment is normal, particularly in sensitive or chronic injuries.
A typical treatment session lasts only a few minutes, and no anesthesia or downtime is required.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients receive a series of 3 to 6 treatments, depending on the condition and severity of symptoms.
Shockwave therapy is most effective when combined with a personalized rehabilitation program. We integrate shockwave with targeted exercise, manual therapy, education, and load management strategies to maximize results.
Why Choose Boulder Sports Physiotherapy?
At Boulder Sports Physiotherapy, shockwave therapy is never provided as a standalone, one-size-fits-all treatment.
Every session includes assessment, clinical reasoning, and individualized treatment from a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We combine advanced technology with evidence-based rehabilitation to help you return to the activities you love.
Whether you're a runner, cyclist, climber, dancer, or simply want to move without pain, our goal is to help you recover as efficiently as possible.

ASSESSMENT
Gait & Running Analysis
Designed for runners, cyclists, and anyone whose injury is connected to how they move. We assess your mechanics in real time — identifying the imbalances, compensations, and load patterns that are either causing your injury or holding your performance back.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
60-minute dedicated movement assessment session
Full analysis of running
Identification of muscle imbalances and movement deficits
Footwear and shoe recommendations based on your gait
Personalized corrective exercise program sent via email
TREATMENT
Blood Flow Restriction Training
BFR Training uses a specialized cuff to partially restrict blood flow during low-intensity exercise — creating a metabolic environment that signals your body to build muscle and strength, even when you can't yet tolerate heavy loads.
It's particularly effective post-surgery, post-injury, or any time traditional strengthening isn't yet appropriate — letting you maintain and build strength while your body heals.
BEST FOR
Post-surgical recovery (ACL, rotator cuff, etc.)
Early-stage injury rehab when heavy load is contraindicated
Older athletes managing muscle loss during recovery
Athletes who need strength gains without joint stress

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Nope! Colorado is an open access state for physical therapy. You do not need a referral to receive Physical Therapy services unless you have Medicare/Medicaid insurance.
-
Boulder Sports Physiotherapy is considered a cash-based clinic, which means we do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide you with a detailed invoice (a.k.a superbill) that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement, depending on your out-of-network benefits. We do accept HSA/FSA as a form of payment for services as well!
Choosing to be a cash-based clinic allows our practitioners to treat each patient as an individual with the highest quality of care every time. We are not limited by which services we can provide, how many sessions you need, nor what injury we focus on during each session. The physical therapist and the patient have more control over their healthcare when seeking treatment from a cash-based physical therapy clinic, which leads to faster and better outcomes for everyone. -
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept credit/debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and are open to other forms of payment (i.e. cash, check, etc.). Being a cash-based clinic allows us to avoid sending any surprise bills later, and you have complete transparency about your care and cost at each visit.
-
Your initial evaluation includes a comprehensive evaluation of your movement, strength, mobility, and medical history. Your physical therapist will also make time for hands-on treatment (i.e. dry needling, tissue work, etc.) and developing a personalized exercise plan tailored to YOU and your goals. Boulder Sports Physiotherapy prioritizes one-on-one care to ensure you receive our full attention and the best results in as few of sessions as possible.
-
You really cannot find a better team of physical therapists who provide 100% one-on-one care with each patient during the 1-hour treatment time. Our therapists are also available for questions and check ins via email outside of the clinic, helping our patients feel supported 24/7 for a lifetime. We value constant collaboration and effective communication with our patients and their other providers, so they feel confident they are taken care of by a team.
-
Yes we do! However, due to physical therapy licensing regulations, we are only able to provide Telehealth services for patients who reside in the state of Colorado.
